Creative Thinking Prompt: Create Original Stories Using Why
Why do snakes slither?
Why does a cow “moo?”
Why don’t humans have eyes in the back of their heads?
Why does the sun greet the day and the moon greet the night?
Why does it snow only where it’s cold?
Right away, our minds search for a logical answer to these questions based on the knowledge we already know. For the moment, put that aside. Pick two questions. For each one, use your imagination to develop a mini-story as to why these things happened. The stories can be farfetched like a Tall Tale if you’d like.
Think Deeper: Make up your own why questions and share with a friend.
Creative Thinking Prompt: Create A Song Using Fractions
Using the table below, write out the music notes as fractions.
This chart shows how many of each note equals one whole (1).
Arrange these fractions in as many ways as possible that equal up to 1.
On a blank music sheet, divide the first line into 4 sections. For each section, write one of your possible fraction combinations. That means each section equals 1 so that your first line of music will equal 4 wholes. Continue until you have filled up your sheet of music.
Play your fraction song by clapping out or using a percussion instrument for each fraction beat.
Using your fraction music song, label each note.
Or using a double line blank music sheet, create a song for you and a friend to play together. You take the top line and your friend plays the line below.
